Principal

Ms. Wells believes that every child can learn and grow in ways that surprise and amaze us. She knows that when we work together and persevere we can truly make a difference in each child's learning trajectory. Ms. Wells believes that struggle is inevitable. But when we maintain a positive approach, open lines of communication and an understanding that everything can be learned, we build life-long learners and send them off on a path to greatness.  

 

Ms. Wells is a very visible principal and she states that the best part of her job is visiting students across the school. Some of Ms. Wells' favorite phrases: Be Strong, Be Couragous, Be You.

Ms. Wells was honored to receive the STEM hero award in May of 2017 for being a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education.  She has been involved in education for over 22 years. She holds a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, a Sociology Minor, and a Teaching Credential from California State University, Long Beach. She also holds a Masters degree in Educational Administration and an Administrative Credential from California State University Dominguez Hills. Ms Wells studied at Columbia University's Teachers College Reading & Writing Project for many years and was honored to present her work to teachers alongside the literacy coaches during a Saturday Reunion in Spring of 2015. She has also studied with the Right Question Institute, National Geographic Alliance and has presented workshops for teachers sponsored by these organizations. 

 

Ms. Wells taught fifth grade at Leland Elementary School, Special Education at Crestwood Elementary School and kindergarten, third and fourth grade at Park Western Place Elementary School in San Pedro. During her time at Park Western, Ms Wells earned the Distinguished Teaching Award from the California Geographic Society, gave presentations for National Geographic and facilitated the study of teachers' planning work alongside researchers at Cal State Long Beach. Subsequently, Ms. Wells served as Common Core Instructional Specialist at the Local District office where she trained teachers across some 125 elementary schools. She served as Assistant Principal specializing in instruction at Barton Hill Elementary before coming to Point Fermin Marine Science Magnet.

Magnet Coordinator

Christie Caric, Magnet Coordinator, is a San Pedro native. Ms. Caric attended LAUSD schools including the Marine Science Magnet at San Pedro High School. Ms. Caric earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of California in San Diego and a Master's Degree from Cal State Dominguez Hills. Ms. Caric believes firmly in the importance of a quality public education in a democratic society.

 

Ms. Caric has broad experience working in schools for the past 17 years as an instructional math coach where she worked with teachers in San Pedro, Gardena, and South Los Angeles. She also served as an intervention coordinator for students in grades 3-5 in English Language Arts and Math. And Ms. Caric taught grades 1-5.  She holds fond memories of her teaching experience at Point Fermin in the early 2000’s.

 

At school Ms. Caric enjoys working with our students, teachers and parents. At home, Ms. Caric enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.
